Conservatories Environmental Policy
1st for Conservatories acknowledges that the manufacture and
installation of conservatories can have an effect on both the local
and the world environments. By accepting responsibility for this
trust and actively pursuing positive environmental policies, we
can minimise any negative impact. Additionally, through the implementation
of a strict Purchasing Specification Clause for imported timbers,
we can help to positively influence standards and practises in the
timber trade world wide.
Our Environmental Policies are:
1. 1st for Conservatories adheres to the recommendations of
and the advice given by The Timber Trade Federation, covering:
- Sustainable yield sources
- Effective control & regulation of forest management
- Multinational & national independent timber certification &
forest audits
- Banned timbers & Endangered species
- Boycott's
- Species
- Overseas suppliers
- Independent certification of timber
- Illegal logging
- Waste reduction

2. Purchasing Specification Clause

1st for Conservatories supports the development
of credible timber certification schemes, which are based on
publicly available forestry standards drawn up in a fully participatory,
transparent and objective manner and backed by independent auditing.
Where possible, we will prefer timber and wood products sourced
from forest areas certified under these schemes.

Where independently certified timber is not
available, 1st for Conservatories will prefer timber and wood
products from suppliers that have adopted a formal Environmental
Purchasing Policy for those products and who can provide evidence
of commitment to that Policy.
3. 1st for Conservatories complies with all of the relevant
legislation governing the environmental aspects of our activities:
- Environmental Protection Act 1990 (EPA)
- Environment Act 1995
- Control of Waste Act 1974
- Control of Pollution (Amendment) Act 1989
- Special Waste Regulations 1996
- Controlled Waste (Registration Of Carriers And Seizure Of Vehicles)
Regulations 1991
4. 1st for Conservatories disposes of all
waste products produced in the course of our business at registered
sites in accordance with the Statutory Regulations. The Company
is registered with the Environment Agency as a Carrier of Controlled
Waste and holds Registration Number TNE/375002.
5. 1st for Conservatories will at all times carry out our business
in a manner that will promote the least possible environmental impact
whilst accepting the governance of Best Available Technique Not
Entailing Excessive Cost (BATNEEC) under the EPA, including:
- Wherever possible to reclaim & recycle (where appropriate) products
and materials
- To liase with and promote best practise to our suppliers
- The minimisation of waste
- Conservation of energy
- To avoid the pollution of air, land & water
- The promotion of these policies to our staff, suppliers and
Customers
